Professors play a crucial role in the development of university education and research. Working as a team, they build up a line of research and ensure continuity in its establishment and development. UMC Utrecht and Utrecht University invest in attracting and retaining highly talented researchers through chairs and various forms of professorships.
Transparency
The UMC Utrecht encourages appropriate ancillary activities by our employees because this strengthens our connection with society. The agreements about this are laid down in the Dutch Code of Conduct for Scientific Integrity, which the UMC Utrecht endorses. See also Research Integrity. It is important that we have a responsibility to make these ancillary activities public and to be transparent about them.
Ancillary work is paid or unpaid work that is performed in addition to the job at the UMC Utrecht. Transparency, (scientific) integrity and the prevention of conflicts of interest are important principles. Ancillary work in the private sphere that is clearly not related to the job at the UMC Utrecht and does not interfere with the proper performance of the job need not be reported.

Some healthcare providers must register in the 'BIG-register'. The BIG-register shows whether a healthcare provider meets the requirements to practice his profession. Each healthcare provider in the register has a personal BIG registration number.
From January 1, 2021, healthcare institutions will be required to include the BIG registration number when using their name on the website. UMC Utrecht also contributes to transparency about the quality of care and thus patient safety.
