Nov 20: Celebrating 20 years master Infection and Immunity

Last week there were two highlights for the biomedical master's program Infection and Immunity (I&I) of the Graduate School of Life Sciences. On Thursday and Friday (17 & 18 November) the annual master symposium took place, which was organized by - and for - master students I&I. The symposium committee chose the theme 'Overlooked - turning a blind eye'. This theme aimed to raise awareness of infectious and immunological diseases that affect millions of people but are not a high priority on the global health agenda. Invited speakers from the Netherlands and abroad gave talks on these ‘overlooked’ diseases.
The symposium was concluded with the second highlight, namely the alumni party in honor of the 20th anniversary of the I&I master. The party took place in the Utrecht city center with 150 attendees, including alumni of the first year (2002). Program director Jos van Strijp and Kristin Denzer, program coordinator since the start of the master, touched upon the highlights of the master. It was a sociable evening where many fellow students saw each other and the involved staff members again after a long time. Fellow students of years who graduated in the middle of the Corona lockdowns were able to see each other in person. Several alumni also have a valuable contribution to the master's program nowadays. For instance, they are supervisors (from PhD to PI) of current I&I students and work in various centers in the Netherlands and abroad in both academia and BioTech companies. In short: a successful evening to celebrate this special milestone together and to strengthen the I&I network.
Many thanks to the strategic program I&I that made this event possible.
