Consortium maakt multidisciplinair internationaal onderzoek naar lobulair borstkanker mogelijk

Onderzoekers van het UMC Utrecht en KU Leuven hebben met steun van een EU COST beurs een internationaal consortium opgericht ter ondersteuning van onderzoek naar Invasief Lobulair Borstkanker (ILC). Aan het project nemen onderzoekers uit 21 landen deel. Het Europese Lobulair Borstkanker Consortium (ELBCC) is een initiatief van wetenschappers Patrick Derksen van het UMC Utrecht en Christine Desmedt van de KU Leuven.

Consortium enables research lobular breast cancer

Researchers from UMC Utrecht and KU Leuven have set up an international consortium with the support of an EU COST grant for research into Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer (ILC). Researchers from 21 countries are participating in the project. Het PLCRC-cohort is geselecteerd als de eerste casestudie voor Regie op Registers voor Dure Geneesmiddelen. Internist-oncoloog prof.dr. Miriam Koopman is opgetogen. “Mijn ultieme doel is dat behandeling en onderzoek van darmkanker volledig geïntegreerd zijn. Dan kunnen we patiënten een behandeling bieden die optimaal bij hen past. Hospitals Utrecht region join forces in Oncomid

Oncomid supports and facilitates collaboration between specialists, for example by securely exchanging patient data between the different hospitals. Together, the hospitals do more and better scientific research. Also they are continuously working on improving care and looking for new treatments. As a result, the knowledge and expertise is not limited to one hospital and ensures that the quality of cancer care in the entire region increases.

Cancer patients want their GP's involvement

Cancer patients need more involvement from their GP after being diagnosed in hospital, including joint decision-making about treatment. However, planning such a joint process is a major challenge. These are the results of 2 UMC Utrecht studies, one by Ietje Perfors and one by Eveline Nooteboom. Continued development of interventions to support primary care involvement in cancer care remains necessary. The need for primary care is obvious, but the design, evaluation and implementation of new interventions remains challenging. Together with other primary and secondary care providers in the region, UMC Utrecht has made collaboration arrangements to provide structured oncological care to improve the counseling of patients with cancer.
