Biography

Biography

I am a biomedical scientist with an interest in education, the interface between science and society, data science, and philosophy of science.

At the moment, I am a PhD student at the Education Centre of the UMC Utrecht. I am working on the impact of biomedical data science developments on science and society. For me, the central question is how these developments impact what knowledge and skills students need to become good researchers. To gain more insight into this, I study student views of the nature of science (epistemic beliefs), how they substantiate those views and whether and how those views are enacted in the way they use and report on research data and results.

In addition, I am an advocate of Open Science. I am a member of the Open Science Cummunity Utrecht (OSCU) and aim to apply the principles of Open Science in my own PhD-project. For example, I am preregistering my studies at the Open Science Framework and plan to publish my research data along with my results, insofar as this is in accordance with the privacy rights of the participants. Furthermore, I raise awareness among colleagues and in the field of Science Education for the advantages of practicing Open Science.

During my PhD, I am a teacher in several Biomedical bachelor courses and co-coordinator of the learning trajectory 'Data Science' within the bachelor program.
