Biography

Marijke Kars (1961) was trained as a pediatric intensive care nurse. She worked at the PICU of several University Children’s Hospitals, first as a nurse, later on as a staff nurse. She obtained her Master’s degree in Health Sciences (Nursing Science) at Maastricht University in 1997. Her research on ‘Parenting and palliative care in pediatric oncology’ resulted in a PhD in 2012. Currently, she works as an assistant professor at the department of Medical Humanities.

Current research projects are focused on pediatric palliative care, young adults in pediatric oncology and advance care planning in oncology.
