This department has the following subspecialties:
- Gastrointestinal and oncological surgeryOur department specializes in complex operations in this field, which are performed as much as possible using laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
- Trauma surgery
- Vascular surgery
- Pediatric surgery (Wilhelmina Children's Hospital)
Breast clinic
In addition to the surgeon, a multidisciplinary team is affiliated with this outpatient clinic. This clinic offers rapid diagnostics. All patients with a breast abnormality can be seen the same or the next day, and the patient usually receives a treatment plan and diagnosis on the same day. The multidisciplinary team also includes a geneticist and a plastic surgeon. UMC Utrecht also has a special consultation hour for men with (suspected) breast cancer. Patients can attend this daily. Due to the low incidence of mammocarcinoma in men, this group requires extra attention and expertise. Patients with breast cancer have a designated contact person. The surgical outpatient clinic holds a weekly wound care consultation hour.
The department also provides training for doctors and specialized nurses.
Working arrangements
The goal of the Regional Transmural Agreement (RTA) is to standardize agreements between primary and secondary care regarding diagnostics, treatment, consultation, (re)referral, and reporting.
