The Laboratories, Pharmacy and Biomedical Genetics division consists of various departments. Internships are available regularly.
Internships Central Diagnostic Laboratory / Scientific internships
The research department of the Central Diagnostics Laboratory comprises six distinct lines of research:
- Nanomedicine
- Cardiovascular biology
- Disorders of the red blood cell
- Extracellular vesicles
- Rare thrombotic and bleeding disorders

Internships Department of Medical Microbiology
Scientific internships
Within the Department of Medical Microbiology, 300 people work together on high-quality diagnostics, education, and science. The scientific internships within the Department of Medical Microbiology are embedded in the “Infection and Immunity” program of the Graduate School of Life Sciences of Utrecht University and UMC Utrecht.
There are multiple research lines within the Medical Microbiology research department. Detailed information about the various topics can be found on the research website.
In addition to the scientific internships within the research groups, there are a limited number of internship positions available in diagnostics for the Life Sciences HBO programs. These internships are arranged by the HBO program.
Internships Laboratory of Translational Immunology - Diagnostics
Internships for students
The Diagnostics section of the LTI offers HLO students the opportunity to complete an internship within the department. The content of this can vary and falls within the target areas:
- Hematological malignancies
- Autoimmunity
- Allergy
- Transplantation
- Immunodeficiencies
This choice was made based on existing services to and collaboration with clinical specialists, as well as our own expertise. An internship may involve becoming acquainted with various techniques, a project within diagnostics, or a research project.
